
As much as 90% of the equipment that was used during the Games will be reused, which includes among others. balls, furniture and sand from the playing fields. The Olympic village was equipped with recycled furniture, and the consumption of disposable plastics was much lower than during the previous Games.
Despite working with corporations notorious for environmentally unfriendly practices, the activities at the Games point to a growing commitment to hosting greener events on a global scale. Were they the most environmentally friendly games? A new standard has certainly been set.
